Baimskaya Copper Project

The Baimskaya copper-porphyry area is located in the Bilibinsky district of the Chukotka Autonomous Region. This is one of the richest mining provinces in the world, including 13 deposits with a resource potential of 23 million tons of copper, as well as resources of gold, molybdenum and silver. The most promising and explored of them is Peschanka. It is here that the construction of the Baimsky mining and processing plant is planned.

The development of the Baimskaya ore zone is the largest investment project in the Far East.
The construction of the Baimsky Mining and Processing Plant (Baimsky MPP) is a large-scale and technically unique project that will attract over 731 billion rubles in investments to the Chukotka Autonomous Region.
The project is included in the Strategy for the Social-Economic Development of the Far East and the Baikal Region until 2025 and the Strategy for the Social-Economic Development of the Chukotka Autonomous Region until 2030.

The launch of production will increase copper output in Russia by 25% and gold output by 4%. The most modern and efficient approaches in mining and processing production will be utilized for the development of the deposit (for example, advanced direct flotation technologies), and the project will create new high-paying jobs.
To ensure the effective production of goods from the Baimsky MPP, all necessary infrastructure will be built, including a year-round port terminal and an all-weather road stretching 428 km between the deposit and the new port for shipping products to the market via the Northern Sea Route.

Estimated capital construction cost: $8.5 billion
Annual processing capacity: 70 million tons
Average annual production over the first 10 full years of operation:

  • Copper: 300,000 tons
  • Gold: 490,000 ounces

The Peschanka deposit, located within the Baimskaya licensed area, contains measured, indicated, and inferred resources evaluated according to the JORC Code at 9.9 million tons of copper with an average grade of 0.39% and 16.6 million ounces of gold with an average grade of 0.21 g/t.

In 2023, the design of production facilities was completed, and a contract was signed for the construction of the plant and the supply of major technological equipment.
A helicopter landing site has been put into operation at the deposit, and the first phase of a fuel storage facility with a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters has begun operations.
In February 2023, a concession agreement was signed between Baimskaya Energy LLC and the government of the Chukotka Autonomous Region for the construction of a 330 kV power line "Cape Nagleyin - Bilibino PP - Baimsky MPP".

As part of the project for the development of the Baimskaya ore zone, the creation of a marine terminal is underway.
The Government of Russia has allocated over 27.5 billion rubles for the expansion of the Pevek port (with a total investment of 55.2 billion rubles). The new infrastructure will enable the installation of additional floating nuclear power units, allowing for the sustainable development of the unique Baimskaya deposit and shipping up to 2 million tons of metals extracted there at the terminal. The marine terminal at the Pevek port on Cape Nagleyin will be constructed by the company "Mezhregionstroy".
