The Key to Safety: How We Found a Director of Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental Protection for a Gas Processing Plant
Client Request:
Fill the position of Director of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) during the peak phase of a Gas Processing Plant (GPP) construction project.
Project Challenges:
Site: Construction of a major gas processing plant.
Workforce: 15,000 employees on site.
Situation: In the midst of the active construction phase, the General Contractor was left without a head of the HSE service. The absence of a "first person" for safety threatened to halt work, cause deadline delays, and posed unacceptable risks to the lives of workers. The market of candidates capable of managing safety on projects of this scale is currently extremely narrow.
Our Approach:
We did not wait for applications. Instead, we activated a direct executive search within our database of top HSE managers, specifically targeting those with experience on large-scale capital construction projects involving over 10,000 personnel.
Key selection criteria included:
- Experience interacting with regulatory authorities.
- Understanding of the specific requirements of gas processing.
- Crisis management skills (the ability to build a system from scratch under tight deadlines).
Result:
Within 3 weeks, we conducted over 30 interviews and presented 5 finalists to the client. The selected candidate started on site 3 weeks after receiving the offer.
This position, critical to the construction project, was filled in a short timeframe. The project continued without downtime, ensuring the safety of 15,000 employees.
