Conquering Underwater Horizons: How We Found a Lead Subsea Engineer
Our recruitment agency faced the challenge of finding a highly qualified specialist for the position of Lead Subsea Engineer. This role not only required extensive practical experience in underwater operations but also in-depth knowledge in the specialized field related to subsea activities.
Project Highlights:
The client was focused on candidates with over 10 years of experience in subsea engineering who could provide engineering support for all underwater operations, manage contracts and contractors, and engage in engineering forecasting. Additionally, strict requirements were outlined: the candidate must be a citizen of Russia, possess a higher education degree, and have experience in team and project management.
A unique aspect of this industry is its seasonality. Our search began during the high season for divers, when many specialists were tied up with projects until autumn. Most underwater work is conducted by divers from April to October, followed by a downtime period. One of the advantages of this project was that the client offered stable year-round employment and monthly salaries, even during the inactive season, thanks to effective planning and workload distribution.
Approach to the search:
We developed a search strategy that combined proactive recruitment methods with a targeted approach:
- Source Identification: Analyzing professional networks such as LinkedIn, specialized forums, and communities of engineers working within the subsea technology sector.
- Professional Recommendations: Utilizing our network of contacts to gain referrals for qualified specialists who could meet the job requirements.
Speed: The first resume was presented to the client within the first week of the search.
Volume: After reviewing over 30 resumes, we identified six most suitable candidates, all of whom were invited for interviews with the company's representatives.
Result:
As a result of the screening stages, a finalist was chosen who fully met all the criteria and demonstrated exceptional knowledge of engineering processes as well as proficiency in operating specialized equipment and navigation software.
The search for the Lead Subsea Engineer became not just a task of finding a specialist with unique competencies, but also an exciting journey into the world of underwater technology, where science, engineering, and the unexplored mysteries of the underwater realm intersect. This case showcased the importance of integrating not only technical skills into the recruitment process but also a creative approach that helps overcome even the most challenging obstacles faced by our industry.
